Can you be a lady without being modest?

As a high-school teacher, this is something that I find myself discussing quite a bit. What are your thoughts on this subject?

I saw a girl over my lunch break the other day that was wearing a teeny-tiny little dress.  It was a strapless dress that she kept tugging to stay up, and it barely covered her bottom when she sat down.  With summer upon us, I think it is an excellent time to talk about modesty.  Last summer I was at a baseball game on the 4th of July in Kansas City and it was HOT.  It was so hot and humid and miserable that I wanted to strip down to my underwear and run through a sprinkler.  But I do know even though it is difficult and takes effort, it is possible to dress modestly even on the hottest days.

  1. Interesting post. I *think* I dress modestly, but as someone who has spent time in ultra conservative Christian environments, I know I wear things that many would not. I can say that on a really hot day in Atlanta, I might wear less than the ladies in those photos!!!

I also think men will look no matter what. We can go out looking crazy, in sweats, a sweatshirt, etc. – but men are programmed to look.

I just wear what I’m comfortable in – and as for ladies who might be dressed immodestly around me – I just try to love them.

As it relates to young ladies/girls, many of them definitely need to “schooled” about the impact of how they dress – and that’s part of the process of growing up.
