Don’t Sleep on L.A. Colors

I have purchased L.A. Colors eyeshadows in the past, and I’ve been pleased with the results. So, when I was out shopping the other day, I grabbed some blush and an eye pencil. I can’t wait to try these out to see if I like these products as much as the eyeshadows. I’ll be sure to let you know!

Grin and “Bare” It

As you know, I’m heading to the beach soon to enjoy a few days of rest and relaxation.  I was chatting with my mother earlier today about what to pack and what not to pack, and she reminded me that since we were going to the beach, I didn’t need to pack any makeup.  As scary as it sounds, she’s right.  I’m a sweat machine, and mixing that with the gulf coast’s humidity would be a nightmare for my MAC foundation, Covergirl mascara, and Mary Kay lipstick.  So, I’m going to suck it up and go barefaced for the duration of my vacation.

Me with a makeup-free face

Me with a makeup-free face

Since I’m giving up makeup for the week, I’ll have to be sure to pack my Clarisonic, Purity Made Simple, and Hope In a Jar–also known as Cherith’s trusted trio.  I have to work hard to compete with Mom’s effortlessly flawless countenance.  Somehow, she forgot to pass on the gene that yields perfectly smooth, blemish-free skin.  I’m still working on forgiving her for that!

I do, however, think that I’m going to sneak a lip color in my bag.  Recently, I’ve grown addicted to Mary Kay’s Creme Lipstick in Rich Fig.   But wait, I wear that with Pink Parfait Lip Gloss, so I have to bring that along, too.  Right?  And, surely, it won’t hurt to smooth on a little of MAC’s Powerpoint Eye Pencil.

Come on.  Give me a break.  Divas have certain standards to live up to.  You expect me to go five whole days without my makeup?  Really??

What’s the longest you’ve every gone without makeup?

Never Say Never and My #1 Beauty Product(s)

Back at the beginning of the year, my church participated in a 21-day fast.  We followed the Daniel Fast plan.  For twenty-one long, long, days,  we were only to eat fruits and vegetables, and water was the only beverage that we were to consume.

Immediately after my pastor announced this activity, I marched to the car and voiced to my husband that I would NOT be participating.  There was no way this steak-loving, cupcake-eating, wine drinking lady was going to deprive herself of these things.  Not happening.  No way.  No how.  End of discussion.

Then, from the back seat of the van, my eldest child asked, “Why not?”  My husband looked at me and waited on my response.  I didn’t have one.  At least not one that I wanted to vocalize.  The only reason that I could think of was that I didn’t want to .  The type of answer that every would-be parent longs to give when their child asks a question.  “Why can’t I go to the movies with my friends?”  “Because I said so!” (Well, maybe it was just me that couldn’t wait to be able to give those types of answers.)

Since my husband and the kids were all in, I had to pull it together and endure this adventure with  my family.  For twenty-one days, I traded the cupcakes, potato chips, fried chicken, and fast food with fresh vegetables, organic soups, beans, fruits, and water.  It was a bit of an adjustment, but it was an experience that I will never forget.  It was life changing in so many ways.

It was during this time on the Daniel Fast that I discovered my #1 beauty products:  water and fresh fruits and vegetables!  While on the fast, I quickly began noticing changes in my body.  My hair was at its healthiest, my skin was at its clearest, and extra pounds that I had been carrying for months melted away.  My body was a direct reflection of what I was eating and drinking.  We’ve all heard it before, but actually seeing the changes was amazing!

I was probably the most reluctant one in the house to drink water.  I had to get creative towards the end to keep the momentum going.  I began to add cucumber slices and lemon juice to my water to give it more flavor.  From time to time, I’d add fresh fruit to my glass of water and pretend that it was some sort of tropical treat.

Now, I’ll admit, I was counting down the days until the end of the fast.  But, I am glad that I listened to my gut feeling (i.e. my husband and my son).  Since the fast ended, I’ve done much better about including more water, fruits, and vegetables into my diet.

By the way, I wish that I had been blogging back then.  You’d get quite a few laughs out of the stories I could tell of those twenty-one days!

Throwback Thursday and #3 Beauty Product

One thing I can count on Thursday for is a good laugh.  I can usually find about ten of my Facebook friends who are brave enough to post a picture of themselves from back in the day.  I don’t generally laugh at the picture (although some of the pictures that people post do cause me to chuckle a little), I am usually smiling because those pictures remind me of the carefree days of old.  I have never worked up enough courage to participate in Throwback Thursday.  But today is different.  If looking at everyone else’s throwback pics makes me smile, I’m sure my own throwback photos will, right?  Well, let’s give it a try…

I’m already smiling.  It’s a big smile, too.  Kind of like the one you see on my face in this picture of me when I was about four years old.

I just showed this picture to my daughter, who just happens to be wearing a similar jumpsuit today!  (Isn’t it funny how fashion comes full circle?)

Okay, here’s another.  This one was probably taken around third or fourth grade.

I remember vividly this being one of my favorite dresses.  Light pink with a white contrast collar and lace detail, complete with thick white tights, pearl earrings, and a light pink ribbon in the hair to match.  Oh, and let’s not leave out the polished nails! I’m certain that my mom had to pry me out of that dress kicking and screaming.  I will bet you $10 that I had on white patent leather Mary Janes with a small heel that made clacking noises on hard floors.  Clacking noises were a prerequisite for every dress shoe that mom purchased for me.  No noise, no purchase.  I mean, you’re not dressed up if your shoes don’t make noise, right?

One last throwback. Senior portraits, 1997.  Here’s my favorite:

Let’s go ahead and address the elephant in the picture that is the huge cellular device that I am holding!  My children laughed hysterically when they saw it, by the way.  Geesh.  Technology has come a long way since then, huh?  Not much to be said here in the area of fashion.  Black tee, denim vest, simple jewelry.  I played it safe that day.  (That bracelet was a gift that my parents brought be back from Jamaica!)

Well, there you have it, my first attempt at Throwback Thursday.  It was fun strolling down memory lane for a moment. Looking at these pictures reminds me of what great parents I have.  As a child, I don’t remember “needing” anything. Ever.  My parents made sure to supply everything I needed and most of the things that I wanted.  At 34, my parents are still there when I need them.  They have had a great influence on my life.  Every day, I pray to God to help me to be the kind of parent to my children that my parents were to me.  I never understood them when I was a child, but now I look back on all of the love and support that they showed me, and I realize how amazingly blessed I am.

I’m looking forward to seeing everyone’s #TT on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram today!

Okay, before I run, I have to give you my #3 beauty product.  Here it is:

Clinique Deep Comfort Body Butter.  This thick, creamy body moisturizer is perfect for anyone whose skin longs for all-day moisture.  It’s great for the entire body, but I especially love using it on my legs, knees, arms, and elbows.  Even though it’s thick and rich, Deep Comfort Body Butter doesn’t leave your skin feeling greasy.  I love that this body butter is unscented, leaving you free to use your favorite fragrance without worry.  I always purchase the 6.7 ounce jar and it lasts for several weeks.  The next time you pass by a Clinique counter, stop by and give Deep Comfort Body Butter a try.  You’ll love it!

High 5!

Wikipedia defines the high five as follows:  A celebratory hand gesture that occurs when two people simultaneously raise one hand, about head high, and push, slide or slap the flat of their palm and hand against the palm and flat hand of their partner. The gesture is often preceded verbally by the phrase “Give me five” or “High five”.

Wow, I was just kidding around when I googled it to see if I could find a definition.  I guess you really can find everything on the internet, huh?  Anyway, I think a high-five is in order for me.  It’s been a great day.  The day started out with an inspiring church service that included a very uplifting message.  The sermon was entitled, “The Drought is Over”.    I left church feeling reassured that all the dry places in my life will soon be watered.  Newness will overtake the areas that are desolate and barren. I’m thankful for such a reassuring message.

After church, I was also able to help my friend, Katie Frost, grow her new business.  Katie is a Premier Designs Jeweler, and I hosted a show for her.  Katie has a great, fun personality and I know that she’ll do very well in this new venture.  Katie is also an amazing blogger.  Her blog, Hems for Her, is one of my favorites!  Check it out here.

Now, I’m going to round out my day with a book that a friend recommended to me a few weeks ago.  The book, 5 Conversations that You Must Have with Your Daughter, has been sitting on my dresser for a few days and I’m finally ready to delve into a good read.

With that being said, I hope that your day has been a  good one.  I hope that you have found some way to inspire, to help, to relax, to celebrate, or to relax. If you have, here’s an internet high five!  If not, there’s still some time left in this day.

p.s.  I almost forgot to list my #5 favorite beauty product, Philosophy’s  Amazing Grace Bath, Shampoo, & Body Shower Gel.  I can’t wait to get my hands on this stuff tonight.  It’s been a long day.  Amazing Grace has a soft, clean, feminine fragrance.  I love this stuff!

I’m Lovestruck! #6 Beauty Product

I’m lovestruck!  Summer vacation has drawn back its bow and let its arrow go straight through my heart!  I’m loving the less intense schedule that goes along with being on a two-month break from work.  I’m excited about little things like not waking up to the sound of an alarm clock, slowly sipping my coffee while reading the morning paper (yes, I still get the paper newspaper), eating breakfast with my babies, and lying around watching recorded television shows.  I made the children promise to give me at least five days before they began spouting off their demands of places they have to go and people they have to see.  Surprisingly, it’s day 4 and they have, indeed, held up their end of the bargain (although my oldest has already told me that my youngest has already deemed this the “worst summer ever”).

In addition to summer vacation, I’m also in love with Vera Wang’s Lovestruck.  My husband bought this fragrance for me as a Christmas gift two years ago.  I have not stopped wearing it since then!  This is the longest relationship that I’ve ever had with fragrance!  I’m absolutely in love with the delicate, sensual, elegant scent of this perfume.  It’s not overpowering or strong.   It’s perfect for day or night.  To top it all off, Lovestruck comes in a beautiful bottle that I love displaying on my bathroom counter top.

For Men

Last year, I noticed that Vera Wang Unveiled announced a new frangrance:  Lovestruck Floral Rush.  I haven’t been able to break away from the original Lovestruck long enough to give it a try.  I’ve passed by it numerous times at makeup counters and beauty product stores, but I’ve not even compromised my relationship with Lovestruck by sniffing Lovestruck Floral Rush.  I honestly don’t know if Lovestruck Floral Rush can hold a candle to its predecessor.  Maybe one day, I’ll find out.  But until then, I’m committed to Lovestruck.

What’s your favorite fragrance?

1st Day Off and #7 Beauty Product

I don’t know whether to blame Murphy’s Law or bad luck on the fact that on one of the few days that I leave my house to run a few errands looking extremely undesirable, I run into everybody that I know !  I mean my outfit was hideous: capri yoga pants, one of my son’s Beta Club t-shirts, and red flip-flops all topped off with a messy high ponytail and a bare face.  Not even a smidgen of lip gloss.  I would be completely mortified if it were not for the fact that I’m a thirty-something wife and mother with a full-time job, a couple of part-time gigs, and a schedule that appears pretty impossible to the average person.  So instead of wallowing in humiliation, I’ll give you justification.

Today was my first day of summer vacation.  I have looked forward to this day for weeks.  I imagined myself sleeping late, pigging out on junk food, and watching recorded television shows.  My day was very, very different from that fantasy.  I spent all day working outside in the yard.  I raked leaves, cleaned out my raised vegetable garden, planted new veggies, spread mulch in my flower garden, and rid my garage of a few things that I’ve been promising myself to throw out for months!  Today was very productive.  Even on my “off” days, it’s difficult to remain sedentary.  I am going to pencil some of those days into my Cozi calendar.  Relaxing from time to time is good.  We all need to take time to recharge.

As I was typing this blog, I caught a glimpse of my fingernails.  Horror.  They took a real beating from all the work that I did outside today.  Good thing I have a brand new bottle Nail Life Nail RevitalizerNail Life Nail Revitalizer is #7 on my top beauty products list.  I began using this product on the recommendation of a good friend.  Glad I took her advice.  Anytime my nails begin to peel or get weak or break from digging in the dirt, I clean my nails thoroughly and begin applying a daily coat of this amazing stuff.  Within a few days my nails are stronger, longer, and healthier.  Nail Life Nail Revitalizer has never failed to deliver great results.

So, I have a few things to look forward to in the coming weeks.  New blooms on my flowers, fresh vegetables from my vegetable garden, and longer, stronger fingernails!

Just shy of summer/#9 product revealed

I’m in a great mood today.  I’m sure that it has a whole lot to do with the fact that there are only two days of school left!  Only two more days until I get to sleep in late (i.e. anything past 5:30 a.m.), read books, have long lunch dates with friends, and travel to fun places.

Everything’s better in the summer right?  Summer food is always good: fresh, sun-kissed fruit, smoky barbecue, juicy fresh-squeezed lemonade, and yummy homemade ice-cream.  (I’m drooling as I type this.)  Summer clothes are cute:  bright, floral-print dresses, flip-flops, and shorts.  (I’m almost jumping up and down with excitement in anticipation of all the fun that is to be had this summer!)  I’m ready to slide into summer and make memories that will last a lifetime!

Now, on to the good stuff.  And when I say “good stuff”, I’m referring to the #9 product that I can’t live without! The product that I’m referring to is one that I bet most of you, especially the moms out there, already have a loving relationship with: Vaseline petroleum jelly. vaseline

This product is amazing.  Growing up, this was one product that was always in our house.  I have continued in the same way because of the great results that Vaseline yields.  Vaseline is in such high demand at my house that all of us have our own personal jar.  Dare not anyone use the other one’s Vaseline–an all-out battle will occur in the house!  It’s so serious that my daughter even has her name written on hers with a permanent marker!  Well, that coupled with the fact that she’s extremely territorial with all of her things.

I use Vaseline as a moisturizer for my legs, feet, lips, elbows, knees, and hands.  I use it to remove stubborn eye makeup.  I use just before home manicures so that it’s easier to clean up the goofs that often occur when I polish my nails.  I could go on and on about the many ways that I use Vaseline.

I’m so excited that Vaseline has launched it’s Spray & Go line!  I can’t wait to try it.  I’m convinced that I’ll be in love.  Just as I am with every other Vaseline product that I’ve tried!

What are your thoughts on this product deemed a “wonder” by Diva on the Run?
