Dressing a “tween” for back-to-school

As much as I hate to admit it, it’s time to start preparing for back-to-school.  I have two children, a boy and a girl, both in the “tween” stage of life.  Luckily, my son is care-free and will wear whatever I purchase for him without complaint.  He’s not into fancy smancy name brands or the hottest looks.  He’s prefers shorts, t-shirts, and flops or sneakers (depending on the weather), making shopping for him a cinch for me!

My daughter, on the other hand, is the ultimate fashionista.  She loves all things girly and can’t wait to get her hands on the newest and hottest fashions.  So, back-to-school shopping for her can be a little tricky.  I love helping her find hot styles for great prices.  So, before we head out to take advantage of some tax-free savings, we decided to do a little web browsing as to reduce the number of eye rolls and arguments that we might have while out shopping!

So, here are some of her favorite back-to-school items:

One Step Up Girls 7-16 Printed Crepe Button Down Blouse

My Michelle Girls 7-16 High-Low Hem Top

YMI Girls 7-16 Floral Printed Skinny Jean

Well, now that we’ve spent time looking for things that fit her “style”, I’ll go mentally prepare for the fact that her mind will have completely changed by the time we get to the mall.

What styles are your tweenaged girls begging for this fall?

Goodbye July

Look at me, rhyming and such with the title of today’s post.  I’m trying to make myself smile in the midst of watching my summer slowly slip away from me.  In just a few short weeks, I’ll be back at work with a “to do” list a mile long.  Actually, I have a mile-long “to do” list now, but I’ve just chosen to forget about it until next week.

As much as I want to complain about summer being almost gone, I will take the high road and be thankful for what July has given me.  I was able to spend time with my family, see friends I haven’t seen in years, spend a day with my very first college roommate and her family, enjoy beautiful fireworks, celebrate a new baby coming into the world, encourage my son in his new sports venture, and watch my daughter compete in a national dance competition.  I’d say that July has been pretty good to this busy mom.

So yes, I’m waving bye bye to yesterday, but it’s with a smile on my face.  I’m happy for what July brought with her and I’m looking forward to welcoming August in tomorrow!  I can’t wait to see what she has in store for me!

How was July for you?

1st Day Off and #7 Beauty Product

I don’t know whether to blame Murphy’s Law or bad luck on the fact that on one of the few days that I leave my house to run a few errands looking extremely undesirable, I run into everybody that I know !  I mean my outfit was hideous: capri yoga pants, one of my son’s Beta Club t-shirts, and red flip-flops all topped off with a messy high ponytail and a bare face.  Not even a smidgen of lip gloss.  I would be completely mortified if it were not for the fact that I’m a thirty-something wife and mother with a full-time job, a couple of part-time gigs, and a schedule that appears pretty impossible to the average person.  So instead of wallowing in humiliation, I’ll give you justification.

Today was my first day of summer vacation.  I have looked forward to this day for weeks.  I imagined myself sleeping late, pigging out on junk food, and watching recorded television shows.  My day was very, very different from that fantasy.  I spent all day working outside in the yard.  I raked leaves, cleaned out my raised vegetable garden, planted new veggies, spread mulch in my flower garden, and rid my garage of a few things that I’ve been promising myself to throw out for months!  Today was very productive.  Even on my “off” days, it’s difficult to remain sedentary.  I am going to pencil some of those days into my Cozi calendar.  Relaxing from time to time is good.  We all need to take time to recharge.

As I was typing this blog, I caught a glimpse of my fingernails.  Horror.  They took a real beating from all the work that I did outside today.  Good thing I have a brand new bottle Nail Life Nail RevitalizerNail Life Nail Revitalizer is #7 on my top beauty products list.  I began using this product on the recommendation of a good friend.  Glad I took her advice.  Anytime my nails begin to peel or get weak or break from digging in the dirt, I clean my nails thoroughly and begin applying a daily coat of this amazing stuff.  Within a few days my nails are stronger, longer, and healthier.  Nail Life Nail Revitalizer has never failed to deliver great results.

So, I have a few things to look forward to in the coming weeks.  New blooms on my flowers, fresh vegetables from my vegetable garden, and longer, stronger fingernails!

Friday. Need I say more?  As a busy mom, I cherish every single moment that allows me to do what I want to do.  Friday is usually the day when the hubs and kids have a limited number of items on their “to do” lists.  Thankfully, this Friday meets that criteria.  I’ve checked my Cozi app twice and have been pleasantly surprised both times.

So what will I do with myself this evening?  Well, I made a last-minute, impulse purchase last week.  Now, I’m having buyer’s remorse so I’m planning on returning it for a “better” purchase. Then, I’ve been postponing a much-needed manicure and pedicure so I may just sashay into one of those walk-in parlors and finally remove myself from amongst the rough-heeled, jagged toe-nailed, chipped nail polish population. (Excuse me, that was the Diva in me speaking.)

Finally, I have been holding numerous dinner gift cards and certificates hostage in my purse for months, so what better time than tonight for me to treat myself to a great dinner?  Where shall I go?  Hmm…..will it be The J. Clyde, Shula’s, The Melting Pot, Olive Garden, or Logan’s??

So, let’s see.  I’ve got shopping, manicure and pedicure, and dinner on the agenda for tonight.  Wow.  That sounds fun, right.  A wonderful way to end a busy, busy week.  But, that totally defeats everything that I said in the first paragraph of this post! So instead of doing any of those things tonight, I think I’ll opt for a quiet evening at home with Netflix and my sofa!
